Simon Atkinson photography

Based in North Scotland, this is my corner of the internet to showcase my landscape photography, hopefully inspiring people to get out further than just the car park at many of the amazing locations all over the UK.

All photos are available to purchase (details of prints can be seen here), my images are also available for licensing and I'm available for commission (please contact me here). Finally, I hope to release a bi-weekly article where-by I talk about various topics from equipment, locations, post-processing and camera techniques, so make sure to visit regularly for updates or even better, sign up for my newsletter so you don’t miss any of the latest articles. I’m currently in the planning stage of organising 1-2-1 tuition and very small group workshops so if you feel you would be interested in them then please also sign up to my newsletter.

“Landscape Photography Is The Supreme Test Of The Photographer, And Often The Supreme Disappointment”

— Ansel Adams

Let me introduce myself...

My name is Simon Atkinson and I’m a landscape photographer originally from Yorkshire in the UK. I was born and raised there, however I now currently live in the North of Scotland, a landscape photographers paradise. My journey into photography began in 2008 when I was at university but I only began to take it more seriously in 2009 after dropping out of university and moving back home to Yorkshire. I’m completely self-taught and spent my spare time reading books and magazines, watching Youtube videos and just spending time visiting the websites of other photographers and studying their work. I still do all of those things today, the learning never stops….

I’ve had success in various competitions, been featured in numerous magazines and newspapers and even had a number of images projected onto the side of the National Theatre in London. For me though, none of that matters, it was simply a by-product of my work, what really matters to me is when I realise I’ve improved my craft, whether it be my photographic technique in the field or my post-processing methods thus allowing me to elevate my photography to a new level.

I’ve realised over time that I definitely lean more towards a creative style of post-processing rather than the more ‘purist’ style. I believe an image is there to be enjoyed and stir the imagination so i’ll use all the tools available to me to achieve the desired outcome.

Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to browse my website.

I am sure the next step will be the electronic image, and I hope I shall live to see it. I trust that the creative eye will continue to function, whatever technological innovations may develop.
